Small and Simple Things

I read these quotes by Sister Hinckley the other day. I believe they come from her book Small and Simple Things. I love them. What an AMAZING woman Sister Hinckley was! Every quote I have ever read of hers lets me know she was my kind of woman and I hope to meet her in the here after...she may have to come down to me, but maybe she will. ;) I had the chance to meet her brother, Douglas Pay a few times. What a kind man he is! He talked of his sister and the late prophet a bit and I knew he loved them so. Dylan's birth mom is a beautiful, beautiful woman that I love so dearly. She is lucky enough to have Douglas Pay as her step grandfather.
Here are the quotes:
"I don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully, tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with long, perfectly manicured fingernails. I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp. I want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbors children. I want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone's garden. I want to be there with children's sticky kisses on my cheeks and the tears of a friend on my shoulder. I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived."

"We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are."

"We each do the best we can. My best may not be as good as your best, but it's my best. The fact is that we know when we are doing our best and when we are not. If we are not doing our best, it leaves us with a gnawing hunger and frustration. But when we do our level best, we experience a peace."

She had a way of speaking the simple truth. The simpleness speaks volumes to me. I hope to read her book Small and Simple Things soon.

I LOVE This post. The line, My best may not be as good as your best, but its my best.. makes me feel so good. All too often we beat ourselves up comparing with someone else, and It makes me feel good to know that my best IS good enough! Comforting words, and such an amazing woman! I needed to read this tonight! Thanks!
